Les Mildenberg Wins The November $10,000 Monthly

Greater Lowell region had a great representation at this Final Table today.

One hundred fifty-three started the day here at the Walpole VFW.

Les Mildenberg, from the Greater Lowell region defeated fellow region player Giselle Albertelli in a very long heads-up battle for the win.

With this Top eight finish, Les earns a “Double Stack” for Day 2 of the Season 33 Finals coming this Spring. His sixth place finish at the August Monthly got him his first stack.

Les was in the bottom tier of chips when the Final Table first started. Then all of a sudden, the chip leader who was to his immediate left, suddenly was knocked out. “Knowing that the chip leader was to my left, I wasn’t going to get involved in too many pots knowing that he could overpower me with his chipstack.” said Mildenberg.

“It’s nice to make the Top 16, but once I made it to the Final Table, I look to try to win it all.” said Les. He never got involved in a hand unless he read his opponent perfectly.

At the 50,000/100,000 level with Giselle, here was the final hand.

Giselle raised to 275,000, Les shoved all-in forcing Giselle to either fold  or call. She calls showing 9♥ 10♥ while Les showed K♥ K♠.

The flop went Q♠ Q♥ A♠. The turn was the 2♥ which gave Giselle a possible flush draw however the river was the 4♠ to give Les the pot and end the tournament.

It is noted that earlier in the day, Les had talked to our blogger about how bad his “post office” photo from a few months looked. The banter was friendly and jokingly so our blogger changed the photo and somehow changed Les’s mojo all day.

We had two ladies at this Final Table who have never gotten as far as they ever had. Nada Smith finished in 3rd place after Giselle knocked her out with Quad Jacks vs. Nada’s Aces.

It must be noted that Jim Ecker also earned a double stack with his 5th place finish today.
