Nick Sims Wins The Season 32 July $10,000 Monthly Championship

On what was an absolute beautiful Summer day, 185 players came to the Walpole VFW to play some poker and try to win a piece of the $10,000 prize pool.

Nick Sims, a Rhode Island regional player, late registered into the tournament and won today taking home $2500 and a “Wild Card” seat into the Season 32 Finals coming in Spring of 2023.

Nick became our chip leader at the start of our Final Table thanks to the last hand before we got there. He looked down, on the big blind, and saw pocket Aces with two all-ins already in. Those two hand were pocket Kings and Tens. An ace hit the flop and Nick was our chip leader.

“I was a little nervous coming to Final Table after that last hand”. Says Sims who captured win number 11 today. “I won my seat today by winning the EPT/BPO private game”.

Nick was doing well all throughout the table but got caught a few times and had to buckle down back to work. Nick was never really in danger as his lowest stack at anytime was 1.2 Million in chips and as high as 1.9 Million.

Sims also wanted to give a special shoutout to his rock, Kourtney, who was with him the entire Final Table. “Kourtney and I are very competitive and we push each other and support each other. She’s always been there”. When asked, if Kourtney will give Nick the “bragging rights” in the house tonight, all she could do it chuckle (since Kourtney came in 2nd at the National BPO in June).

We had six players on this Final Table who had never made a Monthly Final. Once again, Rhode Island players held almost 50% of the seats.

The Final Table took ninety minutes to complete and with the blinds at 60,000/120,000, Stephen put all of his chips at risk and Nick made the call with pocket sixes against Stephen’s Ace/Five. A five hit the flop but couldn’t find an ace nor a five to improve Stephen’s hand.

We will see everyone again on September 10th for the August $10,000 Monthly Championship right here at the Walpole VFW.
