Patrick Banyaniye wins the January $10,000 Monthly Championship

Today here at Walpole, 181 players came to play for a shot to get a seat into the $50,000 Season finals coming up in April.

Patrick Banyaniye, from the Rhode Island Region, won taking home $2500 for his efforts PLUS he gets a “Double Stack” for the Finals.

Banyaniye is no stranger on winning this event as he won this a few years ago. He came in 5th in the October Monthly and with today’s win, earned him a “Double Stack” for Day 2 of the $50,000 Finals.

“My goal was to make it to the Top 8 so I can get a double stack for the Finals” said Patrick. “After that, I had to pick my spots because I was behind in chips. After making the Top 8, I played for the win!” says Patrick.

Patrick also said that with the $2500, he wants to use that money and support the Eastern Poker Tour in their events.

Blinds were 200,000/400,000 when the final hand was dealt.

Rusty and Patrick were going back and forth until Patrick started putting Rusty through the mill with his all-ins.

The Final Table had something happen that no other Final Table has had. Rob Stiegman had less than 1 big blind (53,000) coming to the Final Table, had worked it up to 2.8 million and then got into a battle with Rustum “Rusty” Marfil that cost him most of his chips. Rob got down to his original stack of 50,000 then worked it back up to 1.2 million before going card dead after that. No person has ever done that so congrats to Rob on doing so well with such a small starting stack.

On this Final Table had 5 new players who have never made it.
